Capturing New Yorkers being nice, debunking the title of "rudest city".

New York has claimed the title of "rudest city" for many years. Some argue that everyone that lives here are just too busy for the semantics. I would like to challenge this with an experiment for 100 days. I will document and share 100 ways that New Yorkers are actually "nice"... even if its in their own New York type of way.

“Skywalkers” they were often called. Ironworkers built the giant towers of our great city, dancing with death every day. I remember the day after 9/11 when my Uncle came home, a giant of a man himself. A professional bodybuilder and union ironworker, a Skywalker. I never had seen him cry like that, shattered and weeping. I walked into his apartment not sure what to say, empty Budweiser cans littered the floor around his feet. His glassy eyes reflecting the flickering TV, not on for anything but the company. To kill the silence. I stayed at the edge of the room as if stepping closer might suck me into the black hole of this pain. ”Are you ok?” I finally managed to whimper. He kept looking straight and said ”So many photos... The people where standing on the sides as we approached holding photos and thanking us, I can't help them they shouldn't be thanking me. It's just a god damn graveyard.” I grasped for comforting words, ”For what its worth, you are my hero.” I began to cry. My Uncle was far from a perfect person, many days though I miss his hearty laugh. He made many mistakes, but heroes in our world are not perfect and they aren't always heroic for the reasons you expect. It takes a toll on you, a sacrifice, to shoulder the trauma so we can rebuild.
